Junji Ito Maniac: An Infinite Gaol begins with a college student waking in a mysterious Western-style mansion, unable to remember much and carrying only a shattered phone and fragments of memory. He meets a young woman who is also trapped and a detective investigating a case; together, they search the building for answers and a way out. Its horrors include floating human-head balloons and maniacal black hair, while an ominous change takes root in the protagonist.
The mansion is both setting and obstacle course. Players investigate its rooms for clues, piece together fractured memories, and solve intricate puzzles. Survival adds a stealth layer: the protagonist can hide using the environment and slip past enemies. Limited resources can also be used to set traps, or the surroundings can help outsmart foes and enable a counterattack. That mix makes observation and resourceful choices central to navigating the gaol.
The store lists the game as single-player, so its play format is a solo journey through its riddles, threats, and unsettling story rather than a shared multiplayer session.
