In Jotun: Valhalla Edition, the afterlife is a test of worth. You play Thora, a Viking warrior whose inglorious death bars her from Valhalla until she proves herself to the Gods. Norse Purgatory is rendered in hand-drawn animation, with nine expansive, mysterious levels that connect exploration to an overarching account of Thora’s life and death.
Finding runes is central to the journey: they unleash the jotun, giant Norse elementals who stand between Thora and her goal. Combat is deliberately focused on her massive two-handed axe, divine blessings and player skill. The game also emphasizes atmosphere through Icelandic voice-over and an original soundtrack composed for its gameplay moments. Its five epic jotun make the encounters a defining part of this mythic adventure, rather than a backdrop to exploration.
Valhalla Mode adds a distinct challenge, pitting players against fiercer versions of the jotun. That focused structure is part of what sets its measured, myth-inspired journey apart.
