Jitter casts you as an experimental spaceship AI tasked with maintaining the vessel and interacting with its crew. The game’s setting is a mining colony on a colossal asteroid in the Main Asteroid Belt, where exploration and survival are tied to uncovering the truth behind the mission that brought you there. Mines, caves, outposts and nearby space bodies offer places to investigate, while pirates and unknown life forms add danger to the journey.
The ship is both home and a system to manage: you generate and distribute oxygen, reroute power, and dismantle modules for scrap. You can also expand and rebuild ships and bases with modules, adjusting your spacecraft to your preferred approach. Space combat can shift into tactical action aboard vessels, including boarding an enemy ship. The environment is destructive, too; damage to asteroids, ships and outposts can create strategic openings, but debris can threaten your own craft as well.
Crew members bring individual stories, personalities and gameplay abilities, making their care part of the survival challenge. Losing a main character means game over, so decisions about repairs, combat and the people aboard carry serious stakes. Jitter combines simulation systems, ship customization, exploration and action around the unusual perspective of an AI responsible for a crew and a mission. It is listed as a single-player game in Early Access.
