IXION casts players as the administrator of the Tiqqun, a prototype space station carrying the remnants of humanity after Earth’s ecological collapse. Its city-building premise is also a survival story: the station is a fragile ark, and finding a new home means keeping both its systems and its people going. The single-player format puts that responsibility in one player’s hands, making population management and hard choices central to the experience.
The work ranges from building and maintaining infrastructure to responding to emergencies such as hull breaches, electrical fires and power overloads. Players also manage residents’ needs and trust, while deciding how to allocate station space, develop jobs and support the settlement. Beyond the Tiqqun, probes, mining and cargo ships, and science expeditions help uncover resources, opportunities and dangers. These connected systems give IXION a distinctive rhythm: internal planning must account for immediate risks as well as what the crew may encounter beyond the station.
The game’s chapter-based story brings new threats and opportunities into the search for a human home, while survivor encounters and recovered cryopods connect exploration to population growth. Its pressures come from balancing the needs of a vulnerable settlement with the uncertainty of deep space.
