Inkbound is a turn-based roguelike set in the Atheneum, a magical library where every book opens into another world. Its stories are unraveling under an unseen threat, giving each expedition a shared purpose: save the tales and confront the dangers within them. This literary setting shapes the game’s identity, making the journey a campaign through worlds contained in books rather than a conventional fantasy landscape.
Combat combines free movement with a distinctive tempo. In multiplayer, players act simultaneously, and abilities can be used rapidly; the system also makes room to slow down and think when danger calls for deeper strategy. Runs add another layer of adaptation: players choose among varied classes, draft abilities, upgrade them, and find items to assemble builds suited to the challenges ahead. The result pairs tactical decisions with roguelike variation instead of relying on a fixed character setup.
The Atheneum also serves as a social hub, where players can meet and form parties of up to four for cooperative challenges and build planning.
