Incognito begins with John, a struggling investment banker who has given up on his future, until a powerful alien called HEIDI intervenes. She is dying and needs his help; in return, she gives him a new purpose. That personal bargain launches a journey whose tasks and perspective shift with the setting.
On foot, the game uses first-person-shooter action with role-playing elements, while time in planetary orbit becomes a simple real-time strategy experience. Travel in a vehicle brings a different change: tank combat. Progress through each episode calls for more than fighting, as John gathers information, explores in his ship, mines elements on uninhabited worlds, and attacks surface defenses on hostile planets in a hover-tank.
That sequence of connected activities is the game’s defining format: rather than staying in one genre, Incognito moves between ground missions, orbital play, and vehicle encounters as the player advances.
