In Impire, the demon Báal-Abaddon is reduced to an unimposing earthly body and forced into service by the sorcerer Oscar van Fairweather. He soon sets out to rebuild his power and establish an underworld stronghold, while fending off the heroes of Ardania. That reversal gives the strategy game its darkly comic premise: a former ruler of the abyss must work his way back toward greatness from a cramped, earthly starting point.
Dungeon construction is central to the plan. Players dig out a lair, choose different room types, set traps, and recruit creatures that can gain levels and improved equipment. Encounters with invading heroes can yield more than a victory: their souls may become resources for expanding the dungeon. Báal can also develop through weapon and armor upgrades, while magical item cards can be assembled into a deck suited to a chosen play style. The result ties base-building to fighting and resource gathering rather than treating the dungeon as mere scenery.
Beyond the lair, raids send the demonic forces to locations across Ardania in search of treasure. The campaign supports solo play or co-op, and separate multiplayer modes let friends confront one another.
