IfSunSets casts players onto Luminora, a sprawling island steeped in pirate lore and the legend of a Kraken. Its survival-adventure RPG design pivots around a daily shift in danger: daylight offers room to explore varied terrain and gather what is needed, while night brings a relentless undead threat. That rhythm gives the island a clear identity, making preparation as important as discovery.
During the day, players can hunt, farm, fish, craft weapons, improve combat skills, and build defenses before darkness falls. Fortifications can include traps and obstacles, turning the approach to night into a practical test of planning. The combat also reaches beyond the island: players can sail into pirate ship battles, where waves affect aim and positioning helps shape encounters. Shipbuilding adds another layer of choice, with hulls, sails, and cannons selected to favor speed, firepower, or durability. Underwater exploration offers a different route to resources and ancient relics.
The game supports both solo play and online co-op, where allies can work together, share resources, and plan for survival. The combination of exploration, base defense, action combat, and pirate sailing makes its play loop broader than a straightforward night-survival challenge.
