IDLE_DIRECTIVE casts resource gathering as a practical task in a world already in decline. Players scavenge forgotten ruins, seek out infrastructure that needs repair, and encounter scattered survivors. Its central tension is making progress with limited inventory space: choosing what to carry and how to equip it is part of the challenge, not just preparation between expeditions.
The game combines idle and manual gathering with a grid-based inventory and a varied toolkit. Utility items support a mission, storage containers ease space constraints, and resource producers and automation items can take over parts of the work. Players can also upgrade themselves with gathered resources. Exploration adds another layer: locations may yield supplies, while trading or helping survivors builds reputation and can unlock distinctive items or equipment.
A reset system offers augment points for permanent upgrades, while crafting, trade, and NPC tasks become available later through Augmentation. Those systems frame IDLE_DIRECTIVE as a single-player experience built around ongoing resource management, exploration, and gradual progression.
