I Was a Teenage Exocolonist casts you as a young person growing up in humanity’s first extrasolar colony, where a life on the alien planet Vertumna can be shaped by study, exploration, relationships, and the colony’s needs. Its watercolor world frames a coming-of-age story with real stakes: choices affect the lives of friends and the colony’s fate, while the mystery of remembering past lives adds a further question to the character’s future.
The game connects its narrative choices to a distinctive card-based challenge system. Experiences and formative memories become collectible cards, and the cards earned through past events provide options in encounters, from handling relationships and learning skills to surviving on the planet. Seasonal obstacles give those choices a recurring structure, while the skills, colony jobs, friendships, and possible romances offer different directions for growing up. The story can reach many endings based on decisions made along the way.
This is a single-player role-playing and simulation experience built around personal decisions and repeated lives, rather than a shared-world or competitive format. Its central appeal is the interplay between remembered experience, card-based challenges, and the changing possibilities of life on Vertumna.
