I Am Alive follows a lone survivor trying to reunite with his wife and daughter, one year after a worldwide cataclysm has devastated humanity. Its setting is a desolate city of toxic dust, rubble, and damaged skyscrapers, where finding resources is part of the struggle to stay alive. The focus is not simply on crossing ruined streets: encounters with other survivors can bring assistance, fear, or open hostility.
Scarce ammunition and deadly combat shape how those encounters unfold. Rather than relying on firepower, the player can use deception to handle groups, while hostile survivors may call a bluff. The result is a survival adventure built around judging threats and conserving what little ammunition is available. Climbing the remaining skyscrapers offers another way to search for unspoiled resources amid the wreckage.
The game is listed as single-player, so its play format centers on one survivor’s journey rather than an active co-op experience. Its documented PC features include an Easy mode with infinite retries and Replay mode for revisiting levels to look for secrets, alternate paths, and hidden resources. These features frame the game as a solo, level-based survival adventure, with exploration and tense encounters at its core.
