Hyperdrive Massacre turns its 1980s-inspired vision of space into a local multiplayer arena brawler. Players steer space cadillacs and fight friends or challenging AI, with a full crew roster to unlock in either mode. Its couch-focused design and controller requirement make the game’s shared-screen format central to its identity, rather than an incidental way to play.
Combat is built around a varied arsenal: submachine guns, sniper rifles, frag grenades, homing missiles and bullet deflectors are among the tools for making trouble. The game also describes ten instant power-up weapons, each offering a different play style, and eight battle arenas for those clashes. Sixteen space-enabled muscle cars, each with its own crew, give the retro-futurist setup a cast of distinctive rides.
The format spans three modes playable solo or locally: Deathmatch, Death Race and Last Man Standing. Team Deathmatch, Space Soccer and Spong are listed as local-multiplayer-only options, giving groups several ways to turn the same arcade premise into a contest.
