Hyper Light Drifter casts its protagonist as a collector of forgotten knowledge, lost technology and broken histories. Haunted by an insatiable illness, the Drifter travels through the lands of Buried Time in search of a way to quiet it. That personal quest unfolds in a dark, violent setting where treasure and danger share the landscape, and friendly faces are scarce.
Combat and exploration shape the adventure. Vicious enemies and crushing hazards make survival demanding, while weapon upgrades, new skills and equipment offer ways to build the Drifter’s capabilities. The world is detailed and hand-animated, with branching paths and secrets to uncover, giving the journey an emphasis on discovery alongside action. Its design draws on classic 16-bit action RPGs while using modernized mechanics and a larger scale.
Steam lists both single-player and multiplayer categories, including PvP and co-op options with shared or split-screen play. The contrast helps frame what activity figures represent without reducing the game to combat alone.
