Hydroneer is a mining sandbox built around turning a patch of land into a working operation. Players dig for gold and other resources, starting with primitive tools before developing a base through tycoon-style progression. The terrain is voxel-based, so digging can shape cave networks, quarry pits, or mud mountains; relics and better rewards await at greater depths.
The operation’s machinery and layout are player-designed. Hydroneer’s modular building system supports structures and hydro-powered machines, while pipe networks let players manage water pressure. Those tools feed a broader range of tasks: crafting resources, weaponry and jewellery, growing vegetables, and cooking soup for villagers. Larger hydro-powered vehicles can help dig for resources and ore veins or transport goods, giving the industrial side of the game a practical role beyond the base itself.
Land parcels offer different advantages, including deeper pits, scenery, and proximity to stores, so choosing where to establish a base is part of the sandbox’s planning. The store lists Hydroneer as single-player and also as multi-player, with co-op and shared/split-screen co-op categories.
