How to Survive strands a castaway on an isolated island in a zombie-filled world, where finding food, water, and shelter is essential to staying alive. The premise makes survival an active routine rather than a backdrop: players must prepare for nightfall, contend with hostile creatures, and learn practical advice from collected Survival Guide chapters.
Crafting gives that routine a distinctive hands-on edge. Players gather materials to assemble more than 100 weapons and tools, ranging from shotguns to Molotov cocktails, while choosing among three characters with different characteristics and skill trees. Exploration spans four islands with their own flora and fauna, and an Iron Man difficulty offers a more demanding way to test survival skills.
The game supports solo play as well as co-op with a friend: its story mode can be played offline together, while online co-op is available through eight challenges.
