Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is a ground-based real-time strategy prequel to the Homeworld games, set in the deserts of Kharak. Its campaign follows Rachel S’jet and an expedition sent south after the discovery of an anomaly. That search for the people’s destiny gives the battles a story context: the desert is not merely a backdrop, but the terrain the expedition must cross.
Command fleets of land and air vehicles, from light attack craft to heavyweight cruisers, and adapt their placement to the landscape. High ground can strengthen a position, while dune lines offer opportunities for ambushes. Players can disrupt enemy resource operations or attack their military directly, while resource management, fleet composition and technology research shape strategic decisions. The large maps feature dune seas, craters and canyons, making terrain and force allocation central to the game’s design.
Alongside its single-player campaign, the game offers online multiplayer, playable solo or with friends, with ranked play among its modes.
