Homefront: The Revolution is an open-world first-person shooter set in Philadelphia, four years into a brutal military occupation. The city’s residents face surveillance, armoured patrols and repression, while a Resistance takes shape in bombed-out streets and abandoned subways. The story casts the player as a leader in that movement, fighting a better-equipped force and trying to turn occupation into revolution.
Its combat premise favors guerrilla tactics over a straightforward assault: ambushes, sabotage, infiltration and deception offer ways to challenge an enemy with superior technology, firepower and air support. The Resistance can recruit revolutionaries, establish bases and safehouses, and assemble an arsenal that includes improvised weapons. The open world is described as responding to player actions, with civilians able to join the rebellion as it develops. These systems give the conflict a local, insurgent character rather than framing it as a conventional frontline campaign.
The game pairs a single-player campaign with online co-op, where friends form a Resistance Cell.
