Homefront casts its single-player campaign in a near-future United States brought low by economic collapse, resource conflict and an electromagnetic-pulse strike. Under occupation by the Greater Korean Republic, familiar suburbs and public spaces have become parts of a police state. The story follows a resistance cell fighting back, with an emotional plot and characters at the center of its bleak vision of Occupied USA.
Combat gives that rebellion a mix of infantry and vehicle action. The campaign emphasizes guerrilla tactics against a stronger military, while players can commandeer military vehicles and use advanced drone technology. Its first-person battles are framed as cinematic set pieces, placing the personal cost of war alongside the larger conflict rather than treating the setting as mere backdrop.
Homefront also has online multiplayer, distinct from the story campaign: its large battlefields bring infantry, tanks, attack helicopters and combat drones into the fight. The premise, tactical underdog framing and combined-arms combat together define its particular take on a modern military shooter.
