Holder of Place sends a young dragon into a ruined kingdom where a primordial gloom is consuming everything it reaches. The player’s goal is to travel into the kingdom’s heart, face the monsters in the spreading darkness, and confront the Dragon. Its setting blends dreadful dreams, ancient battlefields and arcane enclaves with a mystery about the wanderer’s past and the Dragon’s origins.
The game combines roguelike structure with auto-battler card play. Each run moves through combat, follower decisions and unpredictable events. Recruited followers have individual traits, and arranging them is central to creating synergies and shaping a strategy; once battle begins, they fight successive waves of increasingly difficult enemies. The player makes choices about the party and its formation, while the battles themselves unfold automatically, giving the tactical preparation a distinct role.
Its described design also includes an ever-changing Reliquary Mode, alongside the main journey toward the Dragon. Together, these details frame the game as a strategy-focused solo expedition through a fading fantasy world, with party-building decisions set between bouts of automated combat.
