Her Story is a crime-fiction game built around a missing-person investigation, presented through recorded police interviews rather than a conventional sequence of scenes. Its central footage comes from seven interviews recorded in 1994, in which a British woman is questioned about her missing husband. The player’s task is to listen closely and assemble an understanding of what happened from her appearances on screen.
The distinctive mechanic is a searchable police database on a mothballed desktop computer. Players type search terms, then watch the clips in which the woman says those words. That means investigation depends on choosing useful language and interpreting fragments, not simply watching interviews in a fixed order. The non-linear storytelling makes the player’s attention and deductions central to how the crime fiction unfolds.
Her Story is categorized as single-player, so its format is an individual investigation shaped by searching, viewing and interpretation.
