Heartwood Online is a free-to-play, cross-platform MMO built around exploring a large world and taking on its challenges with other players. Its activities span raid-boss fights, treasure hunting, and character progression, while PvE and PvP offer different ways to engage with the world. Players can also choose to pursue crafting, guild life, or the player economy, giving the game several social and self-directed paths beyond combat.
Character roles give group adventures a clear foundation: Warrior, Rogue, Mage, and Priest each have distinct gear, abilities, and talents intended to fill a role in a hunting party. Equipment supports melee, magic, and ranged weapons. Gathering and crafting include mining, blacksmithing, woodcutting, carpentry, tailoring, and leather-working, while pets can assist with battle or crafting. Mounts are another collectible, described as a way to travel faster.
The game also makes its online community part of the activity itself. Guild tools let players create tags and ranks and manage membership; large-scale PvP events and bounties encourage competition between players. Housing adds a more personal, creative pursuit, with homes decorated with furniture and gardens and used to display trophies and achievements.
