Guardians of Victoria reshapes running-game conventions into a steampunk pursuit through a city in the clouds. Players take the Guardians through platforming levels as Jack the Ripper chases them, and the goal is to survive to the portal. Reactions, timing, and planning all matter in this race against a persistent threat.
Movement is more exploratory than a straight dash: characters can stop and head left, while some floating buildings can be entered through windows or tunnels. The route also involves controlling crane platforms, handling fires and gas leaks, and collecting fireflies for the dust used by a protective shield. Three characters have distinct backstories, platforming abilities, and fighting styles; Brella, for instance, can glide with her umbrella. The Ripper adds pressure with electric attacks, and his pace increases at higher difficulty.
The game pairs its chase with replayable levels, three difficulty ratings, and a timer system. An arena provides character selection as well as combat and platforming tutorials, while takedowns and collectibles award skill points for upgrades to speed, jumping, attack, and health.
