Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition casts Juan Aguacate, an agave farmer who finds a Legendary Luchador mask, as the unlikely answer to a kidnapping with world-spanning stakes. Carlos Calaca intends to sacrifice El Presidente’s Daughter and merge the World of the Living with the World of the Dead. The setting draws on traditional Mexican culture and folklore, giving this action-platform adventure a fantastical backdrop for Juan’s journey to become a hero.
Its Metroidvania-style structure brings melee combat and platforming together: combat moves also serve as ways to move through the environment, while switching between the living and dead dimensions opens routes across otherwise impossible terrain. The game advertises an extensive move list, combos, anti-gravity grabs, and special abilities such as the Rooster Uppercut and Frog Slam. Towns, forests, canals, and volcanoes give the world distinct settings, while bosses and other foes provide combat challenges. The included Gold Edition also preserves the original experience alongside the Championship Edition.
The format supports solo play as well as local cooperative play for up to four players on the same screen, with players able to swap dimensions independently. Its central appeal lies in the blend of brawling, traversal, and dimension-changing within a folklore-inspired adventure.
