Grey Hack is a hacking simulator set across a vast network of procedurally generated computers. Players begin with tools such as a File Explorer, Terminal and Text Editor, then gain access to additional utilities as their skills improve. Its premise is less about following a fixed sequence of missions than choosing how to explore and what reputation to build in a shared online world.
Each target network has its own configuration, size and security, so players study systems, scan for administrator flaws, test exploits and try to cover their tracks. The terminal is central to this process, using commands based on real UNIX commands. Grey Hack also lets players modify commands or create their own, and build exploits with the game’s scripting language. That combination of investigation and customization gives the hacking theme a hands-on, problem-solving focus.
The online universe keeps running when a player logs out, and changes to computers can be encountered by others later. Players can publish web pages, form guilds, organize attacks, take commissioned missions or explore independently. Single Player offers a contrasting format: its world is created on the player’s computer and pauses when they leave.
