Grey Goo is a real-time strategy game about intelligent factions drawn into a fight for the resources and control of Ecosystem 9. Its classic strategy framework places particular weight on base-building, while a balanced combat system makes the conflict a contest of both preparation and battlefield decisions. The premise’s central tension is whether its lifeforms face extinction or evolve, giving the struggle a survival-driven backdrop.
The single-player campaign lets players command three distinct factions: Humans, whose strength lies in defensive architecture; the versatile Beta; and the highly mobile Goo. Multiplayer adds the Shroud as a fourth faction, described as disruptive and unpredictable. Unit-altering tech upgrades change battlefield rules, while Epic units offer a way to deliver devastating blows. Those faction differences and strategic tools give Grey Goo its particular mix of construction and combat.
Play can take place in the campaign or in multiplayer, where players can find opponents through skill-based matchmaking. Local Area Network play also supports offline battles, and Replay Mode and Observer Mode provide additional ways to engage with matches.
