GRAIN ROT casts players as Living Sparks exploring underground ruins inside fragile wooden vessels. Those bodies can splinter, collapse, or catch fire, but breaking a vessel does not immediately end a run: the Spark can guide the team through the dark and seek another host. That shift makes survival less about protecting one character at all costs and more about finding a way back into the descent before the Spark fades.
The co-op extraction format ties scavenging to shared risk. Players smash furniture for resources or put it through a Grinder for gold, while loot is lost if the whole group breaks. Physics-driven mishaps can turn teamwork into sabotage: a dropkick might hit an enemy, or launch an ally’s Spark from its vessel. Shifting dungeons and Corrupted vessels that react to sound, movement, and one another add another layer of uncertainty. Back at the Outpost, hauled-back resources go toward interactive furniture, upgrades, rescued survivors, and further descents.
Its distinctive hook is the fragile vessel system, which keeps a player involved as a Spark even after a body breaks, while the group decides how to recover and whether its haul is worth the risk.
