In Gordian Quest, a sinister curse has left the land overrun by monsters and danger, and a party of heroes sets out to save what remains and confront the evil at its root. The game brings together an old-school-inspired role-playing adventure and modern deckbuilding, with turn-based tactical battles at the center of its missions. Its heroes are not interchangeable: each has a distinct class, skills, and playstyle, and players assemble a party of three.
Combat invites players to develop combinations from a broad pool of active and passive skills, then strengthen heroes through training and equipment such as weapons, armor, and enchanted trinkets. Roguelite elements shape the journey too, with procedurally generated maps and dungeons and randomized hero skills making playthroughs vary. Decisions and dice rolls can also affect how an adventure unfolds, while difficulty options range from a more forgiving experience to hardcore permadeath.
The game supports several ways to play: a campaign spanning four acts, a roguelite Realm mode with an endless challenge, and Adventure mode with generated areas and solo challenges. Skirmish offers a different format, letting two players pit parties of three against one another.
