Ghost Exile casts its hunt as a response to a supernatural threat: reports describe aggressive ghosts and demons, and the government seeks help from people with occult knowledge. The mission is not simply to endure a haunting. Players must identify the kind of ghost or demon they face, then attempt to exile it, making investigation a defining part of the game’s premise.
Identification relies on more than 25 types of primary and secondary equipment. Players can address an entity through voice recognition, or use a command system when they have no microphone. The entity can leave hints that it does not welcome visitors, while jumpscares vary in frequency according to its anger and type. Optional ways to raise the difficulty offer a more challenging experience and a greater reward.
Ghost Exile can be played alone or in cooperative sessions for up to four players. In co-op, players can divide responsibilities such as installing equipment, drawing protective seals, handling additional tasks, and photographing evidence to increase the reward.
