GearBlocks is an open-ended construction sandbox for players drawn to machines, mechanisms, and physical problem-solving. Its premise ranges from building a car with rack-and-pinion steering and a working drivetrain to making a parkour course with motorized bouncing platforms or a walking mechanical elephant. Physics sets the boundaries, so the same building tools can serve practical designs and playful experiments.
Construction is hands-on and highly adjustable: snap parts together, resize and paint them, change materials, then link their behaviors. More than 200 components include motors, gears, pulleys, joints, springs, and actuators. Once a machine is assembled, players can grab, turn, or shove it, climb into a vehicle’s driver seat, and see how the parts respond. Crashing creations is part of the available interaction, not just a final showcase.
The game offers an in-game tutorial, example builds to inspect, and challenge scenarios for testing designs. Lua scripting adds room to make custom tools, scenarios, challenges, and mini-games, while sharing lets players try community creations.
