GameGuru Classic is a game-making tool rather than a conventional game built around one campaign. Its premise is to help players create and share their own 3D games, with a drag-and-drop workflow intended to make level building accessible. A sample level offers a playable starting point, which users can edit or study instead of beginning with an empty world.
Creation combines a terrain editor and bird’s-eye or 3D fly editing with tools for placing buildings, vegetation, characters, weapons, and other assets. A character creator and model importer expand what can go into a project, while built-in game logic offers a way to make characters act without requiring users to write code. Those who want more control can use the complete scripting language, which is Lua. Finished single-player games can be saved as standalone executables for distribution.
The editor also supports multiplayer game projects, including death-match, team death-match, and co-op, with games playable by up to eight people; all participants need GameGuru Classic. The experience spans making levels and testing or sharing the games made with them, rather than only playing a fixed, developer-authored release.
