FRONT MISSION 1st: Remake sets its military drama on Huffman Island, where rival powers share a contested border. After an O.C.U. platoon led by Captain Royd Clive is ambushed, Royd searches for his missing fiancée, Karen Meure, and becomes entangled in a wider conspiracy. The story’s shifting loyalties and mature themes give its turn-based battles a personal and political frame.
Combat centers on Wanzers, the powerful machines piloted by soldiers on the battlefield. Players can customize both Wanzers and pilots, while a free camera and tactical map support planning and surveying the field. The remake also offers modern and classic gameplay modes, multiple difficulty levels, and a choice between its reorchestrated soundtrack and the original music. Its two campaigns let players approach the conflict from the O.C.U. and U.C.S. sides.
Beyond its single-player campaigns, the game includes local multiplayer skirmishes, playable with two controllers or through hot-seat play. Skirmishes use dedicated maps, while additional single-player scenarios and maps are described as part of the Mercenaries update, alongside new playable characters.
