Fran Bow follows a young girl after the gruesome death of her parents, as she wakes in Oswald Asylum separated from Mr. Midnight, the black cat who is her closest companion. Determined to find him and return to her aunt, Fran sets out on a story-led escape that frames its horror through her vulnerable perspective and an unsettling world.
The adventure combines exploration and story-based puzzles with a distinctive medication mechanic: Fran can take medicine to reveal a hidden world that offers clues and objects to help solve them. Puzzles vary in difficulty and are tied to the narrative, while three arcade-inspired mini-games appear as part of the story’s transitions. Mr. Midnight is also interactive and occasionally playable, adding a companion presence to Fran’s search.
Hand-drawn two-dimensional art and animation give the game a peculiar visual identity, complemented by an original soundtrack and a cast of more than fifty interactive characters.
