Forspoken follows Frey Holland, a New Yorker mysteriously transported to Athia, where a sentient bracelet she calls Cuff accompanies her search for a way home. The Break has corrupted the land, turning animals into beasts and people into monsters, while the remaining Tantas rule as hostile sorceresses. This threatened setting gives Frey’s journey both a personal goal and a wider crisis to confront.
Athia is presented as a sprawling open world, and Frey’s magic shapes how she crosses it: she can scale walls, vault over canyons, leap from heights, and dash across landscapes. Combat likewise centers on a customizable arsenal of spells, with abilities suited to fast-paced or strategic approaches. The design links traversal and fighting through Frey’s supernatural powers, as she explores corrupted regions, battles creatures, and faces the Tantas while seeking answers about the Break.
The listed play format puts the focus on one protagonist’s exploration and combat across Athia, not on a multiplayer mode. Its defining combination of open-world magical movement, spell-based encounters, and a story about finding a way home gives the game its distinct shape.
