Flashpoint Campaigns: Cold War is a grand tactical combat simulation set across Cold War-era Germany. You take the role of a force commander, directing battalion-, brigade-, or regimental-level units across detailed terrain where each hex represents 500 meters. Its focus is not direct action but the challenge of shaping a battle through orders, maneuver, and command intent, with weather, visibility, morale, and readiness all part of the modeled situation.
The game’s asynchronous WEGO structure gives that command role its distinctive rhythm: issue orders, watch time unfold on the battlefield, then adjust plans in response to events. Forces include tanks, infantry, reconnaissance, engineers, air defense, and helicopters, while artillery, rockets, or airstrikes can provide support from off-map. Tactical Transport adds planned movement by helicopter or truck, including air assaults. The design also asks commanders to account for electronic warfare, air superiority, terrain, line of sight, smoke, and mines rather than treating the map as a simple grid.
The listed formats include single-player and multiplayer, with PvP and online PvP also identified. The scenario and campaign selection spans more than 100 Cold War engagements, alongside tools for creating scenarios and campaigns and modifying game data, artwork, and sound.
