Field of Glory II: Medieval is a turn-based tactical strategy game set in North and Central Europe from 1040 to 1270. Its setting spans the age of the mounted knight and conflicts ranging from the Anglo-French struggle to the Mongol invasions. Players command historically grounded armies, with named generals and forces drawn from a broad range of nations and factions. That historical frame gives the battles their character: armies are assembled from researched orders of battle rather than from a generic roster.
Combat unfolds on a tile-based battlefield, where tactical decisions matter across scenarios that can range from a few units to as many as 80 per side. The game offers historical engagements as well as custom “what-if” battles, using generated terrain and selectable scenario types such as flank marches, rearguards, and fortress relief. Its campaigns move directly from one battle to the next, avoiding a strategic map while still letting armies gain experience and elan after victories. Four historically based campaigns sit alongside a sandbox campaign system for matchups between different nations.
The format supports both solo play against the AI and multiplayer battles between two players, including historical and custom scenarios. With its focus on battlefield command rather than moving armies across a map, Field of Glory II: Medieval centers the experience on deploying forces and pursuing victory in each encounter.
