Exogate Initiative casts you as the head of an international effort to explore the universe through portals called Exogates. Its management and base-building premise starts with an underground research facility, which you can expand by excavating space for new rooms and specialised equipment. The base is more than an operations hub: you must attend to your team’s physical and emotional needs as the initiative grows.
Recruit specialists and autonomous explorers, known as Gaters, whose backgrounds and roles shape the expedition team. Scientists study alien life, scholars decipher discoveries and soldiers help protect the facility. Gaters conduct missions on their own but return to you for crucial decisions, bringing samples that can lead to new technology. The game also combines base management with faction encounters described as dedicated 4X gameplay, where you can resist, defeat or negotiate with other groups. Team relationships, grief and consequential choices add a human dimension to the research-and-exploration loop.
The single-player format frames this as a management-led experience, rather than a shared expedition: players oversee the facility and make decisions while their teams venture out autonomously. Its appeal rests on balancing care for the people at home with the risks and discoveries waiting beyond the Exogate.
