Evil Glitch casts the player as an old two-dimensional guardian defending a world corrupted by an invasion from another dimension. Its arcade shoot ’em up action draws on the look of 1980s media, while Sacred Geometry informs the universe and plot. The central challenge is to survive against incoming enemies and destroy their bases, with the identity of the force behind the invasion left as a mystery to uncover.
The game offers distinct approaches to that challenge: Story Mode follows the plot across levels and phases, Arcade Mode asks players to endure for as long as possible while increasing their power after each level, and Evil Mode adds random enemy spawns to survival play. Combat also has unusual escape and timing tools. Glitches can teleport the guardian away from enemies, while warp time slows events and lets the player move faster. The opposition includes multiple kinds of enemies and spawners, giving the survival premise several threats to manage.
Leaderboards and the option to compete with friends give Evil Glitch a score-chasing angle alongside its solo modes. Its compact, programmatically created graphics and sound, and its game-jam origins, add to the distinctive retro presentation.
