Energy Invasion draws on classic Breakout, but changes the role of the ball: it does not break blocks by itself and can instead launch missiles in a chosen direction. This makes directional attacks a defining part of its arcade premise. The game is designed for a controller, with keyboard and mouse control also available, giving players more than one listed way to handle that action.
The design adds bonuses that may be useful or harmful, bright graphic effects and levels featuring dangerous enemies. Its soundtrack is credited to Nick R 61.
Its three modes shape that solo play in distinct ways. Invasion and Linear each have a defined set of levels, while Endless is described as having unlimited levels, offering a different structure within the same Breakout-inspired design.
