Endangered frames Earth as a world reclaimed by its owners after human destruction. In its single-player story, an ordinary barn boy is abducted by aliens and ordered to help prepare an invasion. His mission is to open a portal hidden for ages and help the visitors establish a base, putting him in conflict with humanity.
That premise branches into a multiplayer PvP mode with opposing objectives. Human players use weapons and technology to disable energy generators that are crucial to the invasion, while the aliens try to push them back with advanced technology and powerful weapons. The game also describes aliens as faster-moving, giving the two sides distinct advantages rather than simply dressing up the same role.
The shift from a coerced protagonist’s story to online human-versus-alien combat is central to Endangered’s design.
