Edge of Space casts players as an Ark Corporation operative whose mission to find habitable planets goes awry when a disabled ship leaves them stranded near an unfamiliar world. Survival begins with a descent in an escape pod, then turns into a scramble to gather resources and withstand hostile creatures. Its dynamically generated two-dimensional sandbox spans caverns and deeper planetary areas, giving exploration a practical purpose: find materials and uncover unusual sites while preparing to survive.
Crafting connects exploration to a steadily developed base. Resources can become armor, weapons, facilities and vehicles, while a small exposed outpost can grow into a fortified Command Center with advanced technology. The game also describes research, environmental adaptation and systems for designing electrical setups, alongside a roster of eccentric threats such as laser space sharks and jetpack penguins. These elements make survival more than combat alone, tying equipment, construction and environmental change to the effort to establish a foothold.
The store lists both single-player and multiplayer, with co-op explicitly supported. Its blend of sandbox discovery, crafting, base management and strange science-fiction hazards defines the experience without reducing it to any one system.
