Dungeons 2 casts the player as the returning Dungeon Lord, whose campaign for vengeance now reaches beyond the underworld. The aim is not only to build a lair and gather its inhabitants, but also to extend that rule into human territory. This split between subterranean management and surface warfare gives the game its defining contrast: one side is about shaping a dungeon, the other about taking the fight to the cities above.
In the underworld, players craft a network of dungeons and recruit monsters, while the overworld shifts to tactical real-time strategy. The Hand of Terror adds direct intervention to that management: it lets the Dungeon Lord take control of minions, issue commands, and even slap them into line. The campaign draws on dark humour and fantasy references, and offers two playable factions, alongside varied creatures and heroes.
That campaign is a substantial single-player option, but Dungeons 2 also has four competitive multiplayer modes for up to four players over LAN or the internet.
