On Arrakis, control of the spice means influence over a resource that extends life, expands consciousness, and enables interstellar travel. Dune: Spice Wars casts players as leaders of competing factions seeking dominance on the desert planet, where environmental danger is part of the contest: sandworms can devour troops and harvesters, while storms threaten the landscape. Its Dune setting gives this struggle a political dimension as well as a military one.
The real-time 4X design asks players to balance warfare, subterfuge, political influence, and economic power. Ornithopters explore for resources, villages, and points of interest; troops can seize regions, while buildings and spice harvesters turn territory into economic strength. Players can send agents to sabotage rivals and vote on Landsraad resolutions, but direct aggression may bring political repercussions. Factions have distinct abilities and playstyles, with councilors available to tailor their strengths and weaknesses.
Beyond the main factional contest, Conquest mode offers scenarios with objectives and customizable starting-house perks and upgrades. Multiplayer supports team-based 2v2 matches and free-for-all games for up to four players, with match parameters such as map size, victory conditions, and environmental threats available to tailor the contest.
