Dreamfall Chapters is a narrative third-person adventure set between Stark, a dystopian world of cyberpunk science, and Arcadia, a realm of magic. Its story follows three playable characters: Zoë Castillo, who seeks answers about her identity; Kian Alvane, a disgraced Apostle seeking redemption; and Saga, a mysterious child caught in a house between worlds. The game stands alone while forming part of The Longest Journey saga.
Choices and actions shape the journey, with consequences that can be surprising and devastating. The design brings together exploration of detailed, original settings and an emotional story about dreams and reality, magic and science, chaos and order. The Final Cut presents all five episodes as one story, with redesigned character models, updated lighting and effects, enhanced audio, and additional features such as playable deleted scenes, a concept art gallery, and character profiles.
Because Dreamfall Chapters is listed as single-player, its play format is centered on an individual player moving through its narrative and choices, rather than shared or competitive multiplayer.
