Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is an action RPG set across a huge open world, where the appeal lies in meeting dangerous creatures on their own terms. Encounters invite physical improvisation: a Hydra can be fought by cutting off its heads, while griffins can be climbed and battled in the air. Dragons and other monsters reward learning their weaknesses, giving each confrontation a practical puzzle alongside its spectacle.
The party’s three AI Pawns make the journey distinctive. They fight independently and develop traits from each player; on PC, players can share them online, borrow companions with particular skills for challenging quests, and exchange rewards, tips, and strategy hints. Character planning also reaches beyond party composition, with nine vocations, vocation-specific skill choices, and armor that can be upgraded and enhanced. Pawns can be trained toward a preferred combat style, so the supporting cast is another part of the build.
Dark Arisen includes the original game’s released add-ons and the Dark Arisen expansion, whose content adds a huge underground realm filled with terrifying monsters. Its listed format is single-player, even though Pawn sharing supplies an online connection between players.
