Dragonkin: The Banished casts players as legendary hunters in a world tainted by dragon blood, where hostile creatures rise from underground. The campaign’s central pursuit is to track down the Dragon Lords, giving its battles a clear purpose beyond simply clearing out monsters. Its dark fantasy premise frames the action as a struggle to reclaim a world ravaged by dragons.
Four heroes offer distinct approaches to combat: the Knight and Barbarian fight at close range, while the Oracle and Archer attack from a distance. Character growth has an unusual tactical layer in the Ancestral Grid, where skills earned as battle loot are arranged alongside modifiers. Gear, a Wyrmling and the grid all develop as the character progresses, making build choices part of the game’s appeal. The mountain city of Montescail also changes through player decisions, with upgrades, residents and services tied to its development.
The adventure supports online co-op for up to four players, from arrival in Montescail through endgame activities, and players can work together on the city’s development. Its supported split-screen co-op options also provide another way to play together.
