DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake brings the first two adventures in the Erdrick trilogy together, and lets players choose either title from the start screen. In the first story, the Dragonlord renews the threat to Alefgard, placing a descendant of Erdrick on a quest to defeat him. The second takes place generations later: after monsters invade the kingdoms founded by Erdrick’s descendants, a group of young royals sets out to defend the world and carry on the family legacy.
The two journeys have distinct settings and party structures. The first follows a lone hero across Alefgard, where the adventure brings encounters with characters and fearsome foes. In the second, the Prince of Midenhall travels with the Prince of Cannock, the Princess of Moonbrooke and a Princess of Cannock identified as new to this version. Its wider world includes familiar locales as well as new towns, castles, caves and dungeons; obtaining a ship opens travel across seas and rivers.
Combat uses the series’ traditional turn-based format, with weapons, spells and abilities used against monsters. Together, the selectable adventures give the game a single-player structure built around two separate fantasy quests, rather than a shared multiplayer session.
