Dragon Age II: Ultimate Edition follows Hawke, a refugee fleeing Ferelden’s darkspawn threat who seeks to become Champion of Kirkwall. Rather than framing the journey as a short, self-contained quest, the game follows a decade of battles and intrigue, with Hawke’s choices shaping a larger struggle and their standing with party members. Its nonlinear narrative and redesigned dialogue system give conversations a role in defining the protagonist as well as directing events.
Combat offers a choice between fast-paced action and pausing to issue individual orders, while spells and three battle companions provide varied ways to approach fights. Decisions in dialogue and battle affect relationships with the party, and building friendship can open additional options. That combination ties tactical encounters to longer-term character and relationship decisions, giving the game a distinctive rhythm between immediate combat and gradual political ascent.
The Ultimate Edition packages the base game with three expansions, including Legacy and Mark of the Assassin, alongside additional items, armor, a high-resolution texture pack and the soundtrack. The included expansions also add further Hawke-related stories, with one revealing a truth about the Hawke lineage and another introducing the assassin Tallis as a party member.
