Door Kickers: Action Squad casts players as SWAT troopers tackling criminals in the fictional Nowhere City USA. Its retro-styled side-scrolling action pairs a direct premise, choosing gear and forcing entry, with a constant need to react to what unfolds. The game’s levels are non-linear, giving this police-action setup room for different approaches rather than a single fixed route.
Combat depends on practical decisions as well as firepower: players manage weapon recoil, time reloads, and use distance and cover. Strategic Abilities let them decide when to use health packs or replenish gear, and whether to save a teammate; earned points can instead be spent on an Ultimate ability for a difficult final room. Six playable characters have distinct gameplay and level-up options, while a range of weapons, gear, enemies, and mission objectives supplies further variation. A zombie invasion mode offers another way to play.
The format supports both solo runs and cooperative action, including online and couch co-op. The design’s mix of quick reactions, resource choices, and cooperative play is the more useful context for interpreting that audience.
