DOOM 3 is a horror/action first-person shooter developed by id Software, bringing the original 2004 game and the remastered DOOM 3: BFG Edition together with their expansions. Its central premise is a demonic invasion of the Union Aerospace Corporation’s Mars Research Facility. As one of the few survivors, the player fights through the devastated complex against its demonic horde, with the series’ combat framed by a setting of chaos and horror.
The package distinguishes the original version’s unaltered 2004 experience from the BFG Edition’s remaster. The latter improves rendering and lighting, adds a checkpoint save system and controller support, and equips the player with an armor-mounted flashlight that allows shooting while seeing in the dark. It also includes Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission expansions, alongside embedded versions of DOOM and DOOM II. Stereoscopic 3D is supported on compatible devices.
Resurrection of Evil continues the Mars setting two years after the disaster, as the UAC returns to investigate a mysterious beacon in ancient ruins. Its listed additions include six new demons, a double-barreled shotgun, powers to control time, and gravity manipulation for altering the environment. Together, these editions and expansions present DOOM 3 as a blend of combat-focused shooter action and horror, with the remaster’s updated presentation and quality-of-life features set alongside the original version.
