Dominions 5 casts you as a would-be god ruling a nation in a fantasy world shaped by historical cultures and myth. Your rivals are other pretenders to divine rule, and victory means becoming the one true god. Rather than relying on familiar fantasy peoples, the setting draws on sources such as Norse myth, ancient Rome and Lovecraftian horror, giving its nations a distinctive range of inspirations.
The chosen pretender can be an archmage, titan or monument, with strengths shaped by both the god and the nation. At the start, you also choose how your Dominion affects your lands, followers and sacred soldiers. That influence is more than a theme: it empowers sacred warriors, while the death of your Dominion means your own death. You can defeat opponents by conquering their lands, extinguishing their Dominion or claiming the Thrones of Ascension. Detailed customization of a god’s bless effects adds another layer to those choices.
Battles use simultaneous movement for participating units, so projectiles and troops act in the same unfolding fight. The game supports single-player as well as multiplayer, including co-op and PvP, with online and shared-screen options listed.
